type 5 is "The Investigator." 5s put a lot of energy into gathering information, especially about niche topics; they value being capable and understanding the world around them. because their knowledge bases are also their primary route for engaging with others, they may view particularly rare or specific knowledge as having more intrinsic value. less healthy 5s can become reclusive and cynical as they use their internal focus to distract from their fear that they cannot function in the "real world." 5s actualize by finding ways to feel more grounded in their physical bodies; accepting themselves as emotional beings; and participating more actively in their own lives. actualized 5s gain non-attachment to their hoardes of knowledge when they realize that information is not a substitute for experience.

5 disintegrates to 7 and integrates to 8. 4, 5, and 9 try to get what they want by "moving away from people" and withdrawing. 1, 3, and 5 compensate for unmet needs by developing competency.
